The chemical name of PC is polycarbonate (polycarbonate), is an environmentally friendly engineering plastic, PC material has light weight, high impact strength, high hardness, high refractive index, good mechanical properties, good thermoplasticity, good electrical insulation performance, no pollution of the environment and other advantages, what are the advantages and disadvantages of PC materials? PC material properties:

1. Physical properties

Pure PC resin is an amorphous, odorless, tasteless, non-toxic, transparent thermoplastic polymer. It typically has a molecular weight of 20,000 to 70,000, a relative density of 1.18 to 1.20, a glass transition temperature of 140°C to 150°C, and a melting range of 220°C to 230°C. Polycarbonate has indefinite chemical resistance and excellent oil resistance.

Due to the amorphous nature of polycarbonate, the intermolecular build-up is not dense enough. Organic solvents such as aromatic hydrocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbons swell or dissolve them, which can easily cause solvent cracking. Poor alkali resistance.

2. Mechanical properties:

(1) Impact strength:

The impact strength of PC is excellent in general engineering plastics and even all thermoplastics, its value is similar to 45 glass fiber reinforced polyester PET, the main factors affecting the impact strength of PC are molecular weight, notch radius, temperature and additives.

(2) Deformation resistance:

Even with nylon and POM, the creep resistance of PC is quite good in engineering thermoplastics. Small dimensional changes and cold flow deformation caused by water absorption. This is an important sign of its excellent dimensional stability.

(3) Fatigue strength:

PC is poorly resistant to cyclic stress cycles.

3. Heat dissipation performance:

Among general-purpose plastics, PC has relatively good heat resistance. Its decomposition temperature is higher than 300 °C, long-term working temperature can be as high as 120 °C, at the same time, it has good cold resistance and low brittleness temperature -100 °C, and its long-term use temperature range is -60 to 120 °C.

4. Electrical performance:

PC molecules have small polarity, high glass transition temperature and low water absorption, so they have excellent electrical insulation properties, close to or equivalent to PET, and have always been considered to have excellent electrical insulation properties. The electrical insulation of PC is closely related to temperature and humidity, electric field frequency and product thickness.
