Detailed information

Polyamide, commonly known as nylon, is referred to in English as polyamide (PA). It is a general term for thermoplastic resins whose molecular backbone contains repeating amide groups—[NHCO]—and includes aliphatic PAs, semi-aromatic PAs, and aromatic PAs. Among these, aliphatic PAs are diverse in variety, produced in enormous quantities, and widely used; their names are determined by the specific number of carbon atoms in the synthesizing monomers. This material was invented by the renowned American chemist Wallace Hume Carothers and his research team.
