Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) is a polyester produced via a polycondensation reaction between terephthalic acid and 1,4-butanediol. It is an important thermoplastic polyester and also one of the five major engineering plastics.
Polybutylene terephthalate is a milky-white, semi-transparent to opaque, semicrystalline thermoplastic polyester with excellent heat resistance. However, it is not resistant to strong acids or strong bases, can tolerate organic solvents, is flammable, and decomposes at high temperatures.
Polybutylene terephthalate is widely used in fields such as automobiles, mechanical equipment, precision instrument parts, electronics and electrical appliances, and textiles.
