Polyethylene terephthalate is the most important type of thermoplastic polyester. Its English name is Polyethylene terephthalate, often abbreviated as PET or PEIT (hereinafter referred to as PET), and it is commonly known as polyester resin. The molar mass of its repeating unit is 192 grams per mole. It is a polymer formed by the condensation of terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol. Together with PBT, it is collectively referred to as thermoplastic polyesters or saturated polyesters.
